Knife Threat in Yerevan: Czech Citizen Robbed of Phone and Money
The investigation into a robbery case involving a 29-year-old foreign citizen in Yerevan’s Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts is ongoing, as reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia. The criminal case was initiated following an assault that resulted in the theft of the victim's mobile phone and cash under threat of a knife.
According to the investigation, a citizen of the Czech Republic, born in 1990, reported to the police that on June 2, 2019, around 6:30 PM, she was approached in a vehicle by three young men who threatened her with a knife, demanding her mobile phone, money, and valuable items. They forcibly removed her camera from her bag and took cash from her wallet before pushing her out of the vehicle and fleeing the scene.
A criminal case was opened at the Mashtots police station based on the provisions of Article 175 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of Armenia and was subsequently transferred to the investigative department of the Investigative Committee for the Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts, where it is currently being processed.
As a result of necessary investigative measures, the identities of the alleged perpetrators were established, revealing them to be residents of Ashtarak, born in 1995. Charges were brought against them under Article 175 of the Criminal Code.
During the ongoing investigation, extensive investigative and procedural actions, along with operational measures, revealed that the same individuals are subjects of another criminal case in the Kotayk regional investigative department, concerning residential burglaries under Article 177 and Article 238 of the Criminal Code.
The investigation indicated that these individuals committed burglaries in Tsaghkadzor city between March 18 and March 22, 2019, as well as on June 2, 2019, during specified hours.
Based on sufficient evidence, three young men have been charged under Article 177 and Article 238 of the Criminal Code. A decision has been made to merge this criminal case with the ongoing investigation of the robbery to conduct a joint inquiry.
Further evidence has also been obtained regarding another individual connected to the aforementioned burglaries, who is a resident of Ashtarak, born in 1989. This suspect has been arrested on charges of committing crimes under Article 177 of the Criminal Code.
The investigation is ongoing.
