Kurd Man Brutally Beaten in Turkey for Speaking Kurdish with His Wife
A 74-year-old Kurdish man was brutally beaten in the Turkish city of Çanakkale (Gallipoli) for speaking Kurdish with his wife. This was reported by Armenian MP from Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Garo Paylan on his Twitter page, according to Ermeni Haber.
“Hateful words, racist policies, and the ongoing war lead to crimes rooted in hatred. If we do not reduce the tension, there will be more brutal hate crimes happening at our doors,” Paylan wrote.
Notably, the attack took place in a hospital where the elderly man was receiving medical care. The assailant was also one of the patients present, who shouted, “This is the Republic of Turkey” during the assault. A complaint has been filed with one of the human rights protection bodies regarding the incident.
