IT Companies Moving to Armenia, Says Avinyan

At a meeting with reporters today, October 7, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan emphasized that events like the 'WCIT 2019' World IT Conference should be ongoing in Armenia.

He stated, 'The opportunities in the IT sector are limitless both in Armenia and in any other country. I am convinced that many representatives from the IT sector abroad may be interested in investing in Armenia. However, I can say what our homework should be for the sector to develop. First and foremost, it is the deep reforms in the education system. This year, we allocated additional funding for the establishment of engineering laboratories in schools, and by the end of this year, they will be in 5% of schools.'

Avinyan added, 'We are making a significant investment in the high-tech sector, and 994 million drams have been allocated for this during the recent government session. We are doing our homework correctly and intelligently.'

He highlighted that the revolution in Armenia was related to decentralization. 'The power of decentralization was such that it was almost uncontrollable, and when we talk about blockchain, we can say it is controlled by everyone. The same can be said about the revolution.'

Regarding investments in the IT sector, the Deputy Prime Minister mentioned that there are various programs being implemented with state support. 'At the moment, I can mention the 'Engineering City' project being carried out in cooperation with the World Bank. This will allow various engineering organizations to unite in one place. We also have various projects in different directions. We increase these budgets year by year.'

Avinyan remarked that the IT sector is developing at a very fast pace. 'We are experiencing accelerated growth, and representatives from the IT sector can move to Armenia, relocating their offices to Yerevan and carrying out their work. Our task is to set a new standard in the high-tech industry, create new products that will truly create opportunities to change not only the sector but our daily lives.'
