Ijevan Mayor Resigns
The Mayor of Ijevan, Vardan Ghalumyan, has submitted his resignation. This information was confirmed in a conversation with ArmLur.am by Tavush Governor Haik Grigoryan. He added that the resignation was submitted in accordance with the law.
The reasons for the resignation are still unknown. Recently, various events have taken place around the Ijevan community, particularly related to logging, its prohibition, and subsequent protests.
Additionally, it should be noted that recently a criminal case was initiated against V. Ghalumyan under the first part of Article 308 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. His resignation may be related to the upcoming elections for the head of the Ijevan community scheduled for December 8. Ghalumyan has been the Mayor of Ijevan since 2011.
Attempts to obtain clarification from V. Ghalumyan regarding his resignation were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was unavailable.
