Ankara-Tehran Passenger Train Restarts Operations

Starting from August 14, the passenger train service between Ankara and Tehran will be resumed. The operation of this route had been halted in 2011 due to an earthquake that occurred in Van. This was reported by Ermenihaber.

In 2015, the operation of the Van-Tabriz railway was also suspended following clashes with Kurds in the regions adjacent to the Turkey-Iran border, which had continued despite the interruption of rail connectivity with Tehran.

In June 2019, the Van-Tabriz rail line was first reopened and, due to existing demand, a decision was made to extend the route from Turkey to Ankara and from Iran to Tehran.

The first train from Tehran has already arrived in Ankara. Starting August 14, the passenger services will be conducted using trains with a capacity of 185 seats and will last for 57 hours.
