Details on the New Procedure for Obtaining Driver's Licenses

Deputy Police Chief Hovhannes Kocharyan has addressed the new draft law regarding the procedure for obtaining driver's licenses on his Facebook page. He stated that, according to the draft, education will only be required for obtaining a driver's license for operating vehicles in the ‘C’ category (heavy transport vehicles).

“The draft law requires training only for obtaining a license to operate ‘C’ category (heavy transport vehicles). Armenia is obligated to align its driver's license issuance procedures with the requirements of the European Parliament and Council Directive 2006/126/EC, dated December 20, 2006. Therefore, the adoption of this bill is necessitated by the need to fulfill this obligation.

Moreover, the training required to obtain a driving license will be subject to licensing. Armenia has undertaken these obligations under the roadmap for implementing the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the EU and Armenia.”
