Photos: Protesters Storm Parliament Building in Hong Kong, Police Deploy Tear Gas
Protesters in Hong Kong have stormed the parliament building, demanding negotiations with the local administration's leader. This was reported by РИА Новости.
The protesters attempted to smash the windows of the parliament building and later stormed inside, tearing down pictures from the walls and vandalizing furniture. The police have yet to intervene in these actions, only urging the protesters to leave the gathering place, warning that force will be used if they do not comply.
It is worth noting that mass protests in Hong Kong have been ongoing since the beginning of summer. The demonstrators oppose the authorities' decision to amend the extradition law. District leader Carrie Lam announced a halt to discussions on changes to the extradition law, however, this did not satisfy the protesters.
Weeks ago, nearly two million demonstrators took to the streets opposing the bill, demanding a complete withdrawal of the law's amendments, as well as an apology from the district administration leader. Just a few hours later, Lam issued a written apology on behalf of the government.
