Zaven Karapetyan, Detained in Azerbaijan, Returned to Armenia
Today, Zaven Karapetyan, an Armenian citizen who was detained in Azerbaijan on June 20, 2017, has been returned to Armenia with the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as confirmed by the ICRC's Yerevan office in a conversation with Aysor.am.
“On June 28, with the support of the ICRC, a repatriation operation took place for one Armenian and one Azerbaijani citizen. The operation was conducted with the consent of the authorities,” said Zara Amatuni, the communication programs manager of the ICRC's Yerevan office, in a conversation with Aysor.am.
Earlier, on March 16 of this year, an Azerbaijani citizen, Elvin Hibragimov, was returned from Armenia after he crossed the northeastern border and was detained.
According to Zara Amatuni, the operation took place at the border section in Ijevan. Armenian citizens Arsen Baghdasaryan and Karen Ghazaryan remain detained in Azerbaijan.
