Criminal Case Initiated Against Former Rector of Economic University

The former rector of the State Economic University of Armenia, Koryun Atoyan, is accused of misusing a large sum of money.

A criminal case has been opened against him in the investigative department of the National Security Service under the first part of the third section of Article 179 of the RA Criminal Code.

It is noteworthy that the first part of the third section of Article 179 defines misappropriation or embezzlement through the abuse of official position as the appropriation of someone else's property entrusted to the perpetrator in significant amounts. The punishment for this crime includes a fine ranging from three to five hundred times the minimum wage, detention for a maximum of two months, or imprisonment for a maximum of two years.
