Official Demands and Receives $40,000 in Bribes
On May 2, 2019, an Armenian citizen identified as S.K. reported to the Investigative and Operational Surveillance Department No. 10 of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia that the head of one of the administrative districts of Yerevan had demanded and received $40,000 from him years ago in exchange for granting a construction permit for a multi-apartment building. Subsequently, the Mayor of Yerevan issued a construction permit to the company owned by S.K.
Based on the materials prepared by the Investigative and Operational Surveillance Department No. 10 of the State Revenue Committee, a criminal case was initiated on May 3, 2019, under Article 311, Part 4, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia regarding the receipt of an especially large bribe by an official.
Notice: The person suspected or charged with the alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia through a legally effective court judgment.
