Attempt to Smuggle Drugs Foiled at Armenia-Iran Border
Russian border guards, in cooperation with Armenian police officers, have thwarted yet another attempt to smuggle drugs from Iran into Armenia at the "Agarak" checkpoint.
According to the press service of the Federal Security Service's border division in Armenia, on March 30, during a personal search of an Armenian citizen arriving from Iran, 19 packages containing potent narcotics were discovered.
The individual involved and the seized items have been transferred to the relevant authorities in Armenia for further examination and to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
It is noted that in the first quarter of 2019, over 10 attempts to smuggle drugs and psychotropic substances into Armenia were thwarted at the Armenia-Iran border checkpoint.
In the same period last year, there were no attempts to smuggle drugs from Iran into Armenian territory.
