Photos: Electric Train Collides with Parked Vehicle; South Caucasian Railways Provides Explanation

The South Caucasian Railways LLC has reported that on March 1 at 15:16, its new EP2D electric train, which was undergoing tests and operated by a driver accompanied by a train dispatcher, collided with a vehicle that had appeared on the railway tracks while returning from Gyumri to Yerevan.

The driver of the vehicle did not respond to the numerous warning sounds from the electric train. Later, the driver explained that he was attempting to cross the tracks at an unauthorized location. During emergency braking, the train was traveling at a speed of 83 km/h (the maximum allowable speed in that section is up to 90 km/h), and the braking distance was 393 meters. Despite the braking, the collision was unavoidable.

As a result, the South Caucasian Railways incurred material damages, the extent of which is currently being assessed.

In light of this incident, the South Caucasian Railways once again reminds that the railway is a dangerous zone and urges everyone to be more attentive and vigilant, adhering to road traffic rules. Due to the possible danger posed by careless drivers or pedestrians, trains cannot come to an immediate stop. In an emergency braking situation, the braking distance for passenger electric trains is 800 meters, while for freight trains, it can be up to 1 kilometer.
