Millions of People Have Left the Country. The UN Appeals to Venezuela's Political Forces
The UN calls on all political forces in Venezuela to participate in a democratic dialogue to decide the future of the country. This was announced by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
“Venezuela has lived through internal instability and a socio-economic crisis for decades. Democracy has been compromised. Millions of people have left the country. I urge all Venezuelan parties to engage in a democratic dialogue, in which all sectors of society can determine their future,” the statement read by UN Deputy Secretary-General Rosemary Di Carlo stated.
Additionally, it was noted that US special forces entered the capital Caracas on January 3 and arrested President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in their bedroom. They have been transferred to the US in New York, where the couple is facing charges related to drug terrorism, cocaine trafficking, and illegal possession of firearms.
