U.S. Ready to Assist Lebanon in Disarming Hezbollah
The United States is prepared to support Lebanon in disarming armed groups, including the Iran-backed Hezbollah. This is reported by Bloomberg.
The U.S. has announced that it will help the Lebanese army implement a disarmament plan announced for August 2025, which has so far been hindered by Hezbollah's resistance. American officials have also expressed willingness to support the stabilization of southern Lebanon, where Israel continues to strike Hezbollah positions.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who has been in office since January, stressed the need to exert pressure on Israel to stop its attacks on Lebanon. Aoun noted that Israel must fully comply with the ceasefire conditions so that Lebanese forces can be deployed along the southern border and carry out the disarmament plan.
Last week, Israel conducted one of the largest airstrikes on Lebanon since the ceasefire came into effect, mediated by the U.S. and France. The Israeli army stated that the strikes were aimed at stopping Hezbollah's attempts to restore its military capabilities.
U.S. Special Envoy Tom Barak noted that the Lebanese government faces serious challenges in disarming Hezbollah, as the group refuses to surrender its weapons, citing Israeli aggression.
