Kant Gave a Profound Assessment of the Armenian People: Levon Ter-Petrosyan
Former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan made a post on his Facebook page, recalling Immanuel Kant's assessment of Armenians. He specifically wrote:
“Immanuel Kant on Armenians
Many Armenian historians and philosophers certainly know that the renowned German philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724–1804) gave a profound assessment of the Armenian people. Indeed, it is such an honorable evaluation that every educated Armenian should be aware of. Therefore, I consider it my duty to present to our community a section from Kant's book 'Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View' concerning Armenians:‘Among another Christian nation, the Armenians possess a unique gift of commercial spirit. They traverse on foot from the borders of China to the coast of Guinea, engaging in trade. This testifies to the unique origins of this wise and hardworking people—a nation that, moving from the Northeast to the Southwest, crosses almost the entire Old World and demonstrates the ability to earn the warm hospitality of all those nations where they settle. This proves the superiority of their character (the origins of which we can no longer explore).’”
