Russia Faces Sanctions Threat Over Cancellation of Tripartite Meeting on Ukraine
The United Kingdom and the European Union are preparing new sanctions against Russia that could be implemented if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not attend a tripartite meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, the Telegraph reports, citing senior government sources.
“The UK and the EU are preparing new sanctions against Russia, which could be applied if Putin refuses to participate in tripartite negotiations with Zelensky and Trump,” the article states.
Russia's envoy Yuri Ushakov previously indicated that during a phone call, Putin and Trump expressed support for the continuation of direct negotiations between the delegations of Russia and Ukraine. In this regard, the idea of possibly raising the level of representatives from both the Ukrainian and Russian sides was specifically discussed.
