Pashinyan to Appoint Acting Mayor in Gyumri
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, announced today that preliminary elections, or rather 'primaries', will be held in Gyumri on December 8, 9, and 10. Following these elections, he will appoint an acting mayor of the community.
“All experts say that the management crisis established in Gyumri cannot be overcome without the intervention of the Prime Minister. As a result of upcoming legislative changes, I need to appoint an acting mayor in Gyumri. However, after discussing the issue with the leadership of the ‘Civil Contract’ party, I have come to the conclusion that this problem cannot be addressed solely by an administrative decision. We will ask members and supporters of the CP to submit candidates or to run for the position themselves. The candidate selected through voting will be appointed as the acting mayor, and most likely, he or she will also become the CP candidate,” Pashinyan stated.
