Closure of Upper Lars Linked to Technical Issues, Minister Says
The Minister of Economy of Armenia mentioned that the problems faced by Armenian freight carriers at the checkpoint are also encountered by businesses from other countries.
The closure of the Upper Lars checkpoint is related to technical issues. This was stated by the Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan during a conversation with reporters after a government meeting.
“The closure of Lars is more of a border issue, I mean, a technical issue that is not directly related to Armenia. The difficulties that Armenian freight carriers have are also faced by businesses from other countries,” said Papoyan.
The Minister of Economy expressed hope that Russia and Georgia would soon resolve the issue regarding border throughput capacity.
It is worth noting that as of August 7, there were more than 1,300 Armenian trucks waiting at the Russian-Georgian border at Upper Lars.
