Opening of Communications May Be Sooner Than Signing Peace Treaty: Pashinyan
The opening of communications could occur sooner than the signing of a peace treaty with Azerbaijan. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with reporters in the National Assembly today.
“Real peace can be established through specific, practical actions, which will lead to a peace treaty; but our understanding is that there must be a peace treaty,” he said.
Pashinyan also added that when Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity and have no territorial claims against each other, renounce the principle of the threat of using force, are prepared not to interfere in each other's internal affairs, and do not pursue aggressive policies towards one another, diplomatic relations will be established, and all other issues will be resolved.
At the same time, he believes the process is so complicated and multifaceted that it cannot be resolved through textbook approaches, though he insists that the principles must be established.
It is worth mentioning that on June 4, it became known that Armenia had responded to Azerbaijan's latest proposals regarding the peace treaty draft. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that reaching a peace agreement with Armenia by this November is quite realistic. He also noted that signing this document is impossible without amendments to the Constitution of Armenia.
