Interstate Aviation Committee Declares It Will Not Investigate Prigozhin's Plane Crash
The Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) has announced that it will not investigate the crash of Yevgeny Prigozhin's Embraer Legacy 600 business jet, which occurred a week ago on August 23rd.
The IAC's statement does not elaborate on why this organization, which has traditionally conducted investigations into aviation accidents in Russia, is now opting not to do so. Their website states that the committee "investigates all aviation accidents related to aircraft."
The Russian Investigative Committee (RIC) had previously initiated an investigation into violations of traffic safety and air transport operation rules (Article 263 of the Russian Penal Code). Russian media reports indicate that the case will be led by investigator Ivan Sibulan, who previously investigated the Vnukovo crash that resulted in the death of Total CEO Christophe de Margerie in 2014, as well as the SSJ100 crash at Sheremetyevo, which claimed 41 lives in 2019.
