The Prosecutor General's Office Issues a Statement
The Prosecutor General's Office has issued a statement indicating that protests and gatherings continue in the capital Yerevan and certain locations, amidst which there has been a sharp increase in intolerance and hate speech towards dissenters, both from individual participants and others in public discourse. Cases have been recorded where declarations involving calls for violence or justifying violence have occurred, which in themselves are criminal phenomena and significantly increase the likelihood of new crimes being committed.
Considering the aforementioned realities, the Prosecutor General's Office finds it necessary to warn the following: The conduct of peaceful gatherings, guaranteed by law in the Republic of Armenia, and the free participation of citizens in them are protected. Law enforcement agencies will ensure and continue to ensure the peaceful course of gatherings and the safety of participants.
At the same time, the conduct of gatherings and marches must not in any way violate the rights and legal interests of others or disrupt the normal course of public life. The Prosecutor General's Office strictly warns both the actual initiators and leaders of gatherings as well as participants to remain within the legal framework stipulated by the Law on Freedom of Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, to display lawful behavior, and to refrain from committing any actions that threaten the internal security of the Republic of Armenia. This includes possible clashes with law enforcement officers tasked with ensuring the safety of participants and their official duties, as well as engaging in provocative actions or inciting mass disorder or becoming participants in such activities.
Those attempting to disrupt the order will be subject to appropriate legal accountability.
