A Recent Memory Related to the Army... It Was the Hottest Days of the War: Gayane Abrahamyan
Former MP Gayane Abrahamyan's post: “A recent memory related to the army keeps coming back to me. It was during the hottest days of the war. I was at the positions in Martuni; after passing the necessary supplies, as I was saying goodbye to the boys, one shouted out, ‘Tell those Facebook fighters to at least come here for an hour before blaming us for not being able to hold Jabrayil...’ My heart sank, and we mixed tears and laughter typical of those days and moved on.
I saw the same boy after the war, in the hospital, he had a severe injury, but he was already recovering. He reminded me of our conversation and reproached me: ‘You didn’t write about us, yet people blame us. All the dead are undoubtedly heroes, but none remembers us, the surviving ones; we are only blamed... The army does not need our drunken cheers and pathos-laden posts; the army needs our daily work, institutional reforms, and support for its recovery. Especially now, the false tributes are unbearable. The war showed, although many of us already understood, that the Armenian army is our ONLY guarantee of security, and today the recovery and radical reform of our army is an urgent priority of critical importance.’
