U.S. State Department Advises Citizens to Avoid Travel to Russia
The U.S. State Department advised American citizens on January 23 to refrain from traveling to Russia due to the ongoing tensions at the Russia-Ukraine border, the COVID-19 situation, and the limited capabilities of the embassy to assist U.S. citizens.
Furthermore, Americans have been advised against traveling overland from Russia to Ukraine and to stay away from the border of the two countries.
“Due to the increased military presence in Russia and ongoing exercises near the border with Ukraine, U.S. citizens located in or considering travel to areas of Russia near the border with Ukraine should be aware that the situation at the border is unpredictable and there is a high level of tension,” stated the publication.
According to the State Department, the possibility of harassment of foreigners exists throughout Russia, including through regulatory actions.
