Biden Discusses Situation Surrounding Ukraine and Negotiations with Russia
U.S. President Joe Biden held a consultation at his residence with representatives from his administration responsible for national security issues to discuss the situation surrounding Ukraine and diplomatic engagement with Russia. This information was reported on Saturday by the White House press secretary, according to TASS.
“Today, President Biden met with his team dealing with national security matters to discuss Russia's ongoing aggressive actions towards Ukraine,” the statement reads.
Specifically, Biden was briefed on the current status of Russian military operations allegedly taking place along the border with Ukraine. He discussed with his administration representatives the supposed efforts towards de-escalation through diplomacy, as well as a range of deterrence measures closely coordinated with allies and partners.
“President Biden reiterated that should Russia invade Ukraine, the United States will ensure swift and severe consequences for Russia in conjunction with our allies and partners,” the document states.
Present at the meeting was the President's Assistant for National Security Affairs Jake Sullivan and Advisor Steve Ricchetti. The remaining participants joined via video conference.
