Iran's Foreign Ministry Comments on First Meeting of Special Representatives from Armenia and Turkey
Official Tehran has responded to the first meeting of special representatives from Armenia and Turkey held in Moscow, as reported by the ISNA news agency. According to the source, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh stated during a press conference that Iran welcomes the normalization of relations between its neighbors and supports the efforts being made in this direction.
"Our region is tired of broken relationships and negative approaches. We must help foster positive attitudes and perspectives," emphasized Khatibzadeh.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on January 14 regarding the meeting between the special representatives—Ruben Rubinyan, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, and Ambassador Serdar Kılıç—focused on the Armenia-Turkey normalization process. "During the first meeting held in a constructive atmosphere, the special representatives exchanged their initial thoughts on the resolution process through dialogue between Armenia and Turkey. The parties agreed to continue negotiations aimed at a comprehensive normalization without preconditions. The date and location for the second meeting will be determined in due course through diplomatic channels," the statement read. A similar statement was later released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
