"The Train Has Left" - Matvienko on Plans to Restore the USSR
Russia does not demonstrate imperial ambitions and has no plans to restore the Soviet Union, said Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, according to TASS.
In early December, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland stated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin supposedly wants to recreate the USSR "to immortalize his name in history."
Matvienko responded, saying, "If someone wanted that, it is impossible. We have never shown imperial ambitions; the train has left. Now we must develop mutually beneficial cooperation on a new basis."
