Turkish Vessel Fires at Cyprus Coast Guard Ship
A Turkish motorboat has fired at a Cyprus Coast Guard ship in the northwestern region of the island. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing Cypriot sources.
According to the source, the Turkish coast guard has committed a serious provocation by firing at the Cyprus Republic Coast Guard ship, which was conducting regular patrols around the area of Kato Pyrgos at dawn. Police data indicates that the small vessel, crewed by three members and working against illegal migration from Turkey, spotted the Turkish patrol boat at around 3:30 AM, approximately 11 nautical miles from the port.
The firing from the Turkish vessel was aimed at intimidating the Cypriot sailors. The Cypriot broadcasting company has reported that the Turkish coast guard vessel continued to pursue the Cypriot sailors until they reached the fishing port of Kato Pyrgos.
