Georgia to Withdraw Its Troops from Afghanistan
Georgia will withdraw its military contingent from Afghanistan in accordance with a timeline agreed upon with NATO. This was announced by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
"Today, NATO has made the decision to conclude its mission in Afghanistan by September of this year. Accordingly, Georgian units will also leave Afghanistan according to the timeline agreed with NATO. We are having intensive consultations with our strategic partner, the United States. The withdrawal of the military contingent from Afghanistan will be coordinated with them," said Garibashvili.
The Prime Minister added that currently 860 Georgian peacekeepers are serving in Afghanistan as part of the NATO peacekeeping mission.
