Second Syrian Mercenary Involved in Military Operations Against Artsakh Arrested

The military-political leadership of the Republic of Azerbaijan, ignoring numerous international conventions and agreements related to the fight against terrorism, and failing to fulfill its obligations under several ceasefire agreements, continues to employ mercenaries from various terrorist groups in the aggressive war launched against the Republic of Artsakh. This was reported by the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Armenia.

These individuals have been involved in actions targeting the civilian population of Artsakh, characterized by terrorism, aimed at exterminating people, destroying buildings, structures, roads, communication means, or other property. These actions have been accompanied by the targeted shelling of various settlements in the Republic of Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia using mortars, rocket artillery, aviation, and drones by the Azerbaijani armed forces.

On November 1, 2020, during military operations in the Republic of Artsakh, servicemen of the Artsakh Defense Army discovered a mercenary, Yusuf Al Abed Al Haji, a citizen of the Syrian Arab Republic, born in 1988, from the village of Ziadia in Idlib province, who was directly involved in the aforementioned operations as part of the “Hamdan” group sent to Azerbaijan through Turkey from a terrorist camp located in northern Syria.

The criminal case was initiated concerning the aggressive war unleashed by the military-political leadership of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in violation of the requirements of several international treaties, the use of prohibited methods of warfare, and systematically, deliberately, and purposefully causing human and property losses. Yusuf Al Abed Al Haji was arrested on November 2, 2020, on suspicion of committing crimes under Article 389, Part 1, Item 1, Article 390, Part 3, Item 1, and Article 395, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The investigation is ongoing.
