You are facing much more difficult situations today, Greek Foreign Minister
The Office of the President of the Republic reports that Armen Sarkissian today hosted Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and his delegation on a working visit to Armenia.
Welcoming the guests, President Sarkissian particularly noted, “We highly appreciate your visit at any time, but especially today when we are truly facing difficult times, friendship and trust are of great importance.”
The President stated that these are also challenging times for friendly Greece; fortunately, “the scale and degree of violence there are not as present as they are in Armenia and Artsakh.”
“However, the source of instability and violence is the same,” the Armenian President said.
Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias stated that the friendship between the two peoples has strengthened over the centuries. “This has been expressed not only in our relations and mutual understanding but also in our shared sorrow,” noted the head of Greece's foreign affairs ministry. “You have gone through genocide, and we, Pontic Greeks, have also gone through genocide. We always remember this and cannot allow it to be forgotten. Throughout development, our countries have been victims of aggression, that is undeniable. You are facing much more difficult situations today. This is evident. I consider my visit to Yerevan a symbol of our friendship and support for Armenia and the Armenian people.”
The meeting addressed Azerbaijan's large-scale military aggression against Artsakh and its incursions into Armenian territory, the importance of adhering to the reached ceasefire agreements, and Azerbaijan's continuous violations of them. Issues concerning the further deepening of cooperation between the two friendly countries were also discussed.
