Pashinyan Presents Armenia's Red Lines on the Nagorno-Karabakh Issue
Armenia has always been ready for compromises regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, but there are red lines that Armenia will never cross. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Dmitry Kiselev, the director of the international news agency Russia Segodnya, alongside Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
According to him, the red line for Yerevan is the right to self-determination of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Throughout all times, Armenia has been ready for compromises. The most notable was the Kazan initiative, when Armenia was ready for a specific compromise. But Azerbaijan refused to sign the agreement because it did not want and does not want to recognize the right to self-determination of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh," he stated.
The Prime Minister also commented on the principles upon which the humanitarian ceasefire agreement signed in Moscow on October 10 is based. According to him, these are well-known principles: the right to self-determination of nations, the non-use of force, the exclusion of the threat of the use of force, and territorial integrity.
"The question is how each party interprets these principles. The fact is that during the negotiation process, it became clear that the parties interpret them differently. And today we have a situation where the most fundamental principle for resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh issue has already been violated. This is the principle of non-use of force and the exclusion of the threat of the use of force," Pashinyan said.
