Kosachov Highlights the Disastrous Impact of Turkey's Involvement in Nagorno-Karabakh Talks
According to a statement by Konstantin Kosachov, the head of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, reported by RIA Novosti, Ankara's participation in the negotiations surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, considering its support for Baku's position, will not contribute to a peaceful resolution. Turkey could escalate the situation.
In response, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin stated that Ankara does not oppose Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's proposal for quadrilateral negotiations regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, which would include Yerevan, Baku, Ankara, and Moscow.
“This format is destructive for the prospects of a political resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In this format, Ankara, unlike Moscow and the other capitals of the OSCE Minsk Group countries, is redundant, as its position is nothing more than a reiteration of Baku's stance. Therefore, it adds no value but has the potential for further radicalization of the approaches of the conflicting sides,” Kosachov said.
