Syrian Fighters Tell 'The National' How They Were Recruited in Turkey and Deployed to Azerbaijan
The National, a publication from the United Arab Emirates, has reported on Syrian fighters involved in combat with Azerbaijani armed forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, sharing excerpts from interviews with them, according to Infoteka24.
The article is titled: “In Nagorno-Karabakh, Turkish Syrian Mercenaries Wonder: Why Are We Here?”
According to the publication, the combatants came to fight for money, but the intensification of the battles has led them to think only of their families back in Syria.
The National states that immediately after the outbreak of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, Turkey sent thousands of Syrians to fight on Azerbaijan's side. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 107 Syrian mercenaries have been killed and over 30 injured in the last two weeks in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Despite all of this, Azerbaijan has denied reports regarding the use of mercenaries.
