Canada Calls on Turkey to Stay Away from Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict
Canada has clearly emphasized that Turkey and other countries should not interfere in the conflict between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, stated Canada’s Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne.
According to Reuters, tensions arose in the relations between Ottawa and Ankara when Canada recently halted arms sales to Turkey, as the latter is providing active military technical support to Azerbaijan during military operations in the conflict zone.
The Canadian Foreign Minister mentioned that he urged his Turkish counterpart, Çavuşoğlu, to assist in de-escalating the conflict and to persuade its close ally Azerbaijan to engage in negotiations.
