Head of the Road Police Division in Ijevan Received Bribes: NSS New Discovery
The National Security Service of Armenia has reported significant findings following effective operational and investigative measures conducted by its relevant units. It has been revealed that A. Sh., the head of the Road Police Registration and Examination Division in Ijevan, engaged in illegal activities for the benefit of S. T. Specifically, on September 24, 2020, with the assistance of A. S., A. Sh. received a substantial bribe of 75,000 AMD for issuing an "E" category driver's license without organizing and conducting the practical examination.
In return for the bribe, A. M., an inspector in the same division, was instructed to make a false entry without administering the practical exam, falsely stating that S. T. had participated in the examination and received a positive evaluation. Subsequently, A. M. misused his official position contrary to the interests of the service, by falsifying the official practical examination sheet in violation of the requirements set forth in the Government of Armenia's decision No. 385-N dated March 26, 2020. He confirmed the false entry with his signature and uploaded the falsified data into the electronic database of the Road Police, resulting in S. T. obtaining the "E" category driver's license.
In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated in the investigative department of the NSS based on relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia, on suspicions of bribery, receiving bribes by an official, assisting in bribery, abuse of official power, and official forgery. The head of the Road Police Registration and Examination Division in Ijevan, the inspector from the same division, as well as two additional individuals suspected of involvement in the crime, have been detained.
The investigation is ongoing, with active measures being taken to uncover the entire spectrum of individuals involved in the corruption mechanism and to provide an adequate legal assessment of their actions.
Notice: A suspect or accused of the alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty according to the law, based on a legally binding court decision.
