Smoke from US Wildfires Reaches Europe
Smoke from the raging wildfires in the western United States has reached not only the country's eastern shore but also several northern European countries. This information was reported by the European Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS).
"Comparing the fire activity in the US with previous years, CAMS has noted that this year the activity has been several dozen or even hundreds of times higher than the average from 2003 to 2019," the statement said.
According to forecasts, the smoke is expected to cross the Atlantic Ocean again over the weekend of September 19-20.
Major wildfires have been raging in the western United States since August. The cause of the natural disaster is attributed to abnormal heat and lightning. The fires have resulted in the deaths of nearly 30 people and the destruction of thousands of structures.
