Erdogan and Merkel Discuss Situation in Eastern Mediterranean

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, held discussions via video conference, during which they addressed bilateral relations and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean. This was reported by the Anadolu Agency, referencing the Turkish Presidential Communications Directorate.

During the meeting, the Turkish President stated that the existing disagreements in the Eastern Mediterranean could be resolved through 'negotiations and compromises, ensuring a constructive and equitable approach to the issue.' He emphasized that 'European countries should be fair and consistent regarding Eastern Mediterranean issues' and that Turkey 'will continue to pursue an active and determined policy to protect its rights.'

Turkish officials participating in the negotiations included Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, head of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Hakan Fidan, Director of the Turkish Presidential Communications Directorate Fahrettin Altun, Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin, and Chief of Staff Hasan Dogan.
