Profitable and Export-Oriented Agriculture: Consultation with the Prime Minister
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a consultation where strategic development issues in agriculture were discussed. In this context, experts from the Central Bank presented a project for the establishment of an investment fund in the agricultural sector, along with its potential applications, objectives, and the steps for implementing development mechanisms in the sector.
It was noted that the project was developed with consideration of international experience. The initiative proposes measures aimed at the sector's development, including the establishment of an agricultural machinery fleet based on public-private partnership principles.
A detailed discussion took place on the presented project, during which various proposals and observations were voiced. The heads of the Central Bank also addressed the process of granting loans to the agricultural sector. It was reported that as of March this year, the volume of loans granted had increased by 20.3% compared to the same period in 2019, while in April of this year, it rose by 4.6% compared to early 2020.
In summarizing the consultation, Prime Minister Pashinyan instructed to present a roadmap for the establishment of the aforementioned fund, which will more precisely outline its objectives and the potential expectations from its activities. “The government’s goal is to make agriculture profitable, export-oriented, high-tech, and productive,” said Nikol Pashinyan, emphasizing the importance of organizing discussions with farmers who have achieved success in the sector in the near future.
