Samvel Mayrapetyan's Chosen Restraint Measure Will Not Change

The Court of Appeal has rejected the defense's appeal against the decision to choose pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint for businessman Samvel Mayrapetyan. This was reported to Factinfo by the defense attorney Lusine Sahakyan.

According to her, they have not yet received the court's decision, but will submit a cassation appeal as soon as it is obtained. Addressing Mayrapetyan's health condition, the attorney noted that Mr. Mayrapetyan has undergone numerous surgeries and is still waiting for his next procedure.

It should be reminded that it became known on March 3 that a search had been announced for businessman and owner of H2 TV, Samvel Mayrapetyan. On the same day, the personal guarantee previously selected for him was lifted, and an investigator from the National Security Service submitted a request to the court to choose pre-trial detention as a measure for Samvel Mayrapetyan, which was granted by the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan, presided over by Judge Artush Gabrielyan.

Samvel Mayrapetyan has been charged under Article 38-311 of the RA Criminal Code. He was released on a 30 million dram bail on December 27, 2019. His personal guarantees were presented by Ruben Panarjyan, the Chief Neurosurgeon of the Ministry of Health, and Father Vahram Melikyan, the head of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin's information system. The specified amount has been nationalized.

Mr. Mayrapetyan has serious health issues and was allowed to travel abroad after a decision by the European Court of Human Rights. Recall that on January 17, 2019, the European Court of Human Rights decided to apply interim measures in Samvel Mayrapetyan's case and instructed the Armenian government to urgently provide medical assistance corresponding to Samvel Mayrapetyan's health condition, in accordance with the recommendations of medical specialists, including the use of the trans-luminal drainage method.

He was permitted to leave the country for treatment on January 25, 2019, and was transferred to Germany for this purpose. Currently, Samvel Mayrapetyan is abroad, as he urgently requires medical intervention, according to his attorneys.
