Georg Loryan to Remain in Custody for Another Two Months: Court Denies Appeal
The former Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, Georg Loryan, has had his detention extended for an additional two months. This was reported to 24News by Loryan's lawyer, Levon Sahakyan.
The lawyer noted that they have appealed the court's decision to the Court of Appeals, but presiding judge Rubik Mkrtchyan has left the decision unchanged.
It is worth recalling that on December 5, Georg Loryan, his driver, and the president of one of the football clubs were arrested on suspicion of bribery and were later remanded in custody. According to initial data obtained by the National Security Service (NSS), the deputy minister provided assistance to a businessman, who is also the president of a football club operating in Armenia and is the actual head of several supplier companies, in competitions announced for the purchase of sports equipment and clothing needed by the agencies under the ministry's jurisdiction. In exchange for winning the competitions, the deputy minister, with the assistance of his driver, reached an agreement to receive particularly large bribes.
