In Terms of Press Freedom, Armenia Ranks 61st Out of 180 Countries: Rustam Badasyan
In terms of press freedom, Armenia ranks 61st out of 180 countries. Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan reported this on his Facebook page.
“For comparison, I would like to note that in 2018, Armenia was ranked 80th in the report published by 'Reporters Without Borders.' This is the best indicator and record of strengthening democracy in Armenia over the past two years. Recently, the Armenian government took another step emphasizing the importance of the press, making data from the State Register accessible to media professionals free of charge. We initiated this reform with the conviction that it will strengthen the guarantees of investigative journalism and press freedom, and will contribute to the media's ability to provide the public with more accurate and comprehensive information. Our reforms aimed at this goal will continue. At the same time, we cannot overlook the problems existing in the sector, which are also highlighted by specialized international organizations. We have serious work to do in combating misinformation and promoting media literacy. I am confident that we will overcome this together and further improve the state of press freedom.
Dear colleagues in mass media, I congratulate you on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day and thank the conscientious journalists for their professionalism and invaluable work,” he wrote.
