VIDEO: The Largest Ozone Hole on Earth Has Closed
The largest ozone hole ever observed on Earth has closed just days ago. It had formed only weeks earlier, surpassing all previous records. This information has been reported by Mail Online.
The ozone layer gap emerged earlier in the spring. Scientists suggest that it was caused by the observed cold winter. However, not much time passed after the arrival of spring before the ozone layer began to recover.
The hole was located in the polar region's sky. This means that ultraviolet rays from the sun were reaching the Earth's surface almost unobstructed. However, due to the position of the polar region, they did not cause significant damage.
It is the existence of the ozone layer that ensures that only a small percentage of ultraviolet radiation reaches the Earth. Without the ozone layer, living organisms would not survive the immense flow of radiation.
