Macron Sends Letter to President Armen Sarkissian
French President Emmanuel Macron has sent a letter to Armenian President Armen Sarkissian on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. This was announced by the press service of the President's Office.
In the letter, it is stated:
“Mr. President, dear friend,
On this memorial day of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, I send you and the Armenian people my warmest brotherly and friendly greetings.
On April 24, France remembers the massacre of 600 Armenian intellectuals in Constantinople, which marked the beginning of the genocide. Today, France is more committed than ever to protecting the memory of the victims, fighting against denialism, and drawing serious lessons from that tragic chapter of history.
Last year, my country declared April 24 as the Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide, in accordance with my commitment. Strictly respecting the health guidelines dictated by the current health situation, I have decided that this year the day should also be commemorated in Paris, with a small ceremony, in the presence of members of the French government.
This legacy and shared memory form the basis of the unique relationship between our two countries. Today, the coronavirus pandemic that has afflicted the world imposes new health, economic, and social challenges on all of us. We will confront those challenges together. I am confident that France and Armenia will work together in international frameworks for more effective multilateralism and newly established solidarity.
Whatever the difficulties, Armenians can rely on France's friendship. Faithful to its commitments, France stands by the Armenians in their aspirations for peace and prosperity.
Mr. President, please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.”
