US to Provide Additional $25 Million in Aid to Armenia: ANCA
The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) has welcomed the U.S. State Department's directive instructing the U.S. Embassy in Armenia to explore how to align the existing aid package to the country's priority needs amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
ANCA President Raffi Hamparian praised the initial steps taken to clarify the U.S. aid package to Armenia. On April 3, 2020, Hamparian sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urging the reallocation of $25 million from the expanded aid program approved by Congress to assist in combating the coronavirus outbreak.
The response from the State Department, written on behalf of Secretary Pompeo, was signed by Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent. Previously, the U.S. had granted Armenia $1.7 million in support.
