The Memory March Planned for April 24 Will Transition to a Virtual Platform
The Armenian Genocide Memorial and Institute has issued a statement: "This year, we had planned to organize a Memory March on April 24, urging our compatriots to visit the memorial dedicated to the victims of genocide that day with photographs of their relatives who were victims or survivors of the genocide. In cases where a photograph is not available, we encouraged them to write down their relatives' names and to place images of our intellectuals or cultural heritage victims of the genocide.
As the pandemic situation seems to not allow us to carry out this initiative, we decided to transition the Memory March to a virtual platform. This initiative is a way to commemorate April 24 during an extraordinary situation when our mobility is restricted, so to speak, a 'Virtual Memory March.' The aim of this Memory March is to remember the victims of the genocide, the survivors, and our grandparents who withstood the trials of genocide, and to urge our compatriots to replace their Facebook profile pictures with those of their relatives who were victims or survivors in the suggested format—thus sharing the photographs and stories of their ancestors.
This initiative is unrelated to the well-known slogan of the centenary. The Declaration adopted at the centenary and the slogan 'I remember and demand' are an inseparable part of our identity, history, and struggle. This initiative is an action to commemorate April 24 during an extraordinary situation."
