Ministerial Statement on the Situation Regarding Ucom
The Armenian Ministry of High-Tech Industry has issued a statement regarding the information circulating in the telecommunications sector.
The ministry emphasizes the need for telecommunication operators and their employees to act responsibly during the state of emergency and adhere to their obligations under the "Law on the Legal Regime of Emergency" and various directives issued by the authorities. This is essential to ensure the uninterrupted operation of telecommunications services in Armenia.
In response to news concerning Ucom’s acquisition of shares in Veon Armenia, the ministry stated that it has not granted approval for this process in accordance with Article 14, Paragraph 7 of the "Law on Electronic Communications". The matter is currently under review, with ongoing studies and analyses.
Furthermore, the ministry urges media outlets not to exploit the current situation unnecessarily, considering the critical importance of maintaining seamless telecommunications services during the state of emergency.
