EU to Provide €92 Million to Armenia for Urgent and Short-term Needs

The European Union will allocate a total of €92 million to Armenia for urgent and short-term needs assistance. The funds will be directed towards the supply of medical equipment and supplies, training for medical personnel and laboratory staff, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the business community, as well as social and humanitarian aid for those affected by the coronavirus outbreak. This was reported by the political, press, and information department of the European Union Delegation to Armenia.

“In addition to the statement issued by the EU last week regarding the support provided to Armenia in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the further reconfiguration of existing programs with the Armenian government, we are proud to announce that the EU will provide a total of €92 million for urgent and short-term needs assistance.

The funds will be directed especially towards medical equipment and supplies, training for medical personnel and laboratory staff, support for SMEs and the business community, as well as social and humanitarian aid to those affected by the coronavirus outbreak.”

The EU response follows the logic of the “Team Europe” approach. It aims to mobilize investments from all EU institutions and complement them with resources mobilized from EU member states and financial institutions, particularly the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). As a result of unified efforts, “Team Europe” is capable of attracting a critical mass, which is characteristic of few,” the statement read.
