Limited Number of Specialists to Control Citizens' Phone Data: Minister Badasyan's Press Conference
The bill is the last resort that, together with the existing restrictions, should lead to the desired outcome we mentioned. This was stated by the Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan during a press conference held at the Armenian Information Unified Center, addressing the call data retention project.
“There can be no motivation for the state to keep that data, nor do those details present any interest for law enforcement agencies,” he said. Badasyan also noted that this information accumulates with the operators. “To answer the question, how much trust is there that the operators do not use this information, especially since it is deleted after an incredibly long period of time, simply having no opportunity to retain that data: let's say the chief specialist of the operator can have online access to that data, how reliable is it that there are no leaks from there. I believe there are no leaks, especially not when it is controlled by a state body. One must have a vivid imagination to think that implementing such measures in the fight against a pandemic could be used for something else,” he said.
