Turkey's Coronavirus Death Toll Reaches 168
The Turkish Minister of Health, Fahrettin Koca, has announced that in the last 24 hours, the country has recorded 610 new cases of coronavirus infection, with 37 people having died. The total number of infected cases in the country has reached 10,827, and the overall death toll has climbed to 168.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has donated his seven-month salary to assist citizens affected by the coronavirus. This information was reported by the Anadolu Agency. On March 30, Erdoğan launched the National Solidarity Initiative.
“I personally begin this initiative by donating my seven-month salary. We are determined to use all resources to prevent the spread of the virus. Today, the country can conduct more than 10,000 tests daily,” Erdoğan stated.
The Turkish leader's initiative has received support from government members and lawmakers, who have contributed around 5.2 million Turkish lira (approximately $791,000). The funds will be distributed to those in need, as well as to individuals who have been economically affected by the quarantine announced in the country.
