US to Provide $1.1 Million to Armenia for COVID-19 Response
The U.S. State Department announced plans to assist Armenia in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report by Voice of America.
To this end, the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide Armenia with $1.1 million. The assistance will be directed toward improving health care in Armenia, specifically in the areas of laboratory system development, enhancing COVID-19 case detection capabilities, providing support to expert circles, and several other sectors.
The State Department highlighted that over the past 20 years, the United States has allocated $106 million to support the development of the health sector in Armenia, with total aid amounting to $1.57 billion.
In addition to Armenia, the U.S. State Department plans to provide assistance to the health sectors of several other countries in their fight against the pandemic. Neighboring countries Azerbaijan and Georgia are set to receive $1.7 million and $1.1 million, respectively, for COVID-19 response efforts.
